DUNE 3 is a polyphonic synthesizer that integrates multiple synthesis methods, including subtractive, wavetable, and FM synthesis, all enhanced by its advanced modulation system called the Differential Unison Engine. This combination allows users to create rich, complex sounds with a wide sonic palette. The synthesizer supports exceptionally high oscillator count, enabling up to 8320 oscillators to be active simultaneously, regardless of the synthesis type.

The instrument features two oscillator stacks with up to 32 oscillators each, complemented by a third oscillator and a noise generator. It offers up to 16 voices of polyphony, with unison modes that can reach up to 520 oscillators per note. The signal path remains fully stereo and benefits from zero-delay feedback filters to maintain clarity and precision. Users can also shape their sounds through a powerful wavetable editor and four multi-segment graphical envelopes that provide intricate modulation control.

DUNE 3’s output is refined through two high-quality effects chains, each containing a variety of effects such as EQ, delay, reverb, distortion, phaser, chorus, and compression. This allows for extensive sound shaping and polishing within the synthesizer itself. The interface is modern and clean, available in various sizes to suit different workflows, and the engine is optimized with multi-threaded processing to ensure smooth performance. While DUNE 3 and previous versions run independently, they can operate simultaneously without compatibility issues.
